Please be advised that books selected for book club will be at a more advanced level than those "at grade level". Due to this fact, some books contain content and/or language for a more advanced reader. I would encourage you to look over the book list on the student pages if this is of concern to you.
Your child will be offered 2 choices at each book club meeting. I would like book club to be an ongoing committment, therefore, some months, students may find books may not be their favorite genre. I encourage students to try new books and also let them know we will not always like very book we read!
Are you looking for a way to find challenging books for your children at an appropriate level? Check out the Scholastic Book Wizard.
*Attention Sixth Grade Parents*
Please take note of the historical fiction choices for December. Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry takes place during the Civil Rights era. Language typical to the conflicts during that time does arise in the novel. This is a very well-written novel, but does address issues our country faced during the 1930s in the Deep South. This may create a dialogue with your child about our country's history and the prejudice that took place.
