Creating Your Book Talk! OBJECTIVES: ·Students use language to understand, develop and communicate ideas with others. ·Students demonstrate comprehension and analysis of reading material. ·Students speak with a purpose. HOW WILL WE ACCOMPLISH THIS? You and your small group will have an opportunity to create your own Book Talk to be posted on the Horizon Book Club Wiki!In order to record a successful Book Talk, you must be prepared to share the following things: ·Title, author, illustrator (if applicable) ·Discussion of issues in the story, not just main events and related details ·Explain why you liked it ·Explain why other students may like it ·Share a passage you would like to read to “hook” the prospective reader ·1 to 2-minutes in length Other things you may want to include: ·Discussion strengths and weaknesses in the main characters ·Dialogue with your groups members about the book oQuestion/answer format oDiscussion about an element of the book (humor, sadness, suspense, etc.) ·How would you change the story THINGS TO REMEMBER: ·Be prepared with written text outlining what you want to say or word-for-word. ·Since this is a recording, if you goof up, you can start over.Please don’t abuse this option. ·Pace yourself as you read your material. It’s not a race! ·Speak clearly.
